My comments for James Risen’s report on DCIA Haspel’s challenges in trying to placate Trump and maintain CIA’s integrity. I talk about the lessons she learned on engaging Trump from Secretary of State Mike Pompeo,, who continues to champion her so as to keep his own fingers on CIA. But ultimately, how her actions to align CIA’s resources with Trump’s political interests and willingness to dilute CIA’s message and omit bad news has already compromised the Agency’s mission to speak truth to power and protect US national security interests.
