My OpEd for the New York Times on the perils and hopes for the United States Intelligence Community as President’s Trump labors to undermine its mission to speak truth to power and protect the American people. It comes as the President’s nominee to oversee the Intelligence Community, John Ratcliffe, undergoes the confirmation process. Ratcliffe, like Acting DNI Richard Grenell, a political operative and Trump loyalist, aims to politically weaponize the IC’s mission and tools for Trump’s personal ends as Attorney General William Barr has done at Justice. Only, I expect the President and his DNI will find outmaneuvering and gagging the IC far harder than they expect.
